Beyond the Buzzword: How Lahlouh Builds Sustainability Into Every Order

Sustainability is one of the most exciting conversations we’re having with clients right now. Whether you’re planning for Earth Day, refreshing your team gifting, or just taking a closer look at what your brand puts its name on — more companies are asking the right questions, and we’re here for it.

When clients come to us with sustainability goals, our first move is always to dig in a little. What matters most to your audience? Is it what the product is made from? The carbon footprint of getting it here? The people who made it? The impact the purchase creates in the world? The more specific we can get, the better the outcome.

Here’s what we’ve learned: “sustainable” means something different depending on who you ask — and that’s actually a good thing. It means there’s almost always a meaningful option, no matter where your priorities are.

We’ve already done the vetting for you. Our 2026 Sustainability Shop is a curated collection of products that meet a high bar across materials, certifications, carbon accountability, and giveback — ready to browse whenever you are.

How We Define “Sustainable”

Not all sustainability claims are created equal — and part of what we do is help you cut through the noise. A product can be labeled “eco-friendly” based on one small attribute while the bigger picture goes unexamined: what it’s made of, who made it, how it got here, and where it ends up.

We look at the full picture so you don’t have to.

Sustainability Isn’t One Thing

When a client comes to us asking for sustainable merchandise, the first thing we do is ask a few questions back. Who is this for? What matters most to your audience — the material the product is made from, the carbon footprint of getting it here, or the impact the purchase makes on the wider world?

In most cases, the honest answer is: all of the above. That’s why we’ve built a layered framework for evaluating what makes a product genuinely sustainable:

•  What it’s made of: Recycled content, sustainably sourced natural materials, biobased components, or designs built to replace single-use plastics

•  What’s in it: Non-toxic, certified free from harmful substances (Oeko-Tex®, bluesign®), produced through environmentally responsible manufacturing

Its footprint: Carbon tracked and disclosed at the product level across the full lifecycle, not just at the facility

Its end of life: Designed to last, or designed to be recycled, keeping waste out of landfill

•  The people behind it: Audited factories, fair labor standards, and responsible water use at the production level

There is no single “sustainable” product. There are products that are better for the planet in specific, provable ways — and our job is to help you find the ones that align with what your brand actually stands for.

We Hold Our Entire Supply Chain Accountable

It’s easy to talk about being sustainable in your own four walls. It’s harder — and more important — to extend those standards to the partners and vendors you rely on. That’s something we’ve worked hard to get right.

When we evaluate potential suppliers, we look beyond price and quality. We ask: What are their hiring practices? Are their working conditions safe and fair? What are they doing to reduce their own environmental footprint?

71% of our spend is with suppliers who have an existing EcoVadis rating or are actively working toward one.

EcoVadis is a globally recognized platform that measures company sustainability performance across environmental, social, and ethical criteria — it’s not a rubber stamp, it’s a rigorous assessment. The fact that nearly three-quarters of our supplier spending is with EcoVadis-rated companies reflects how seriously we take the sustainability of our entire supply chain, not just our own operations.

90% of our spend is with suppliers who participate in some type of giveback program.

That includes partnerships with Feeding America, One Tree Planted, 1% for the Planet, American Cancer Society, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and more. When you work with Lahlouh, the ripple effect of that partnership extends further than you might expect.

Shop Sustainability, Already Curated for You

We’ve done a lot of the legwork for you. Our 2026 Sustainability Shop is a curated collection of products that meet our standards across every dimension — from materials and certifications to carbon accountability and giveback. Here’s a look at what’s inside.

Drinkware Built to Replace, Not Replicate

Our drinkware category is anchored in recycled stainless steel — products made from 90–91% post-consumer recycled content, paired with FSC®-certified bamboo lids and built for daily use that replaces single-use plastics for years. For clients looking for premium names with equally strong sustainability credentials, we’ve curated options from brands with science-based carbon targets, giving programs built into every purchase, and insulation technology designed to last. Whether you’re outfitting a team, building an Earth Day kit, or gifting a client something they’ll actually use, there’s an option here that fits — from lean quantities to large-scale programs.

Bags That Mean Business — and Then Some

Our bag and tote selection is where sustainability gets creative. You’ll find options in recycled PET (made from recovered plastic bottles), pre-consumer recycled cotton, certified organic cotton, and renewable jute. Many carry the 1% for the Planet designation, meaning a portion of every sale goes to environmental nonprofits. Others come from brand partners whose programs provide meals to children around the world with every unit sold — so the act of gifting a bag becomes an act of giving back. From a recycled cotton convention tote at volume pricing to an FSC®-certified leather-look cooler for a VIP gifting program, you don’t have to choose between style and sustainability.

Carry & Tech: The Details That Matter

We’ve also curated tech accessories and carry items in rPET — post-consumer recycled fabric made from recovered plastic bottles. Structured tech organizers, roll duffels, dopp kits, sling bags, and laptop totes, all PVC-free and built for everyday use. These are products that earn a permanent home in someone’s bag, not a drawer. That permanence? That’s part of what makes them sustainable.

The Standard, Not the Exception

The choices you make about branded merchandise aren’t just brand decisions — they’re values decisions. When you source products thoughtfully, from suppliers held to real standards, tied to giveback programs that reach well beyond the transaction, the impact of your order doesn’t stop when the package arrives.

That’s what we’re building toward at Lahlouh: a promotional products practice where sustainability isn’t a category. It’s the standard.
